Thunder Rookie Josh Giddey Out For Rest of Season With Hip Injury

Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey will miss the rest of the regular season with a hip injury, the team announced.

The 19-year-old played in just one game after the All-Star Break, but reportedly had lingering soreness in his hip.

Head coach Mark Daigenault told reporters Saturday that Giddey's return to play did not align with how much time remained in the rest of the season, thus the decision was made to shut him down.

Daigenault did note that Giddey hasn't had any previous hip issues in his young career.

He finishes his rookie season averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 54 games. Giddey currently leads all rookies with 345 assists this season, 24 ahead of Cade Cunningham.

The Australian also ranks third in rebounds, behind Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley.

With Giddey out, Tre Mann and Theo Maledon will likely play more minutes for the 21-53 Thunder.
