Julius Randle has started a career-high 77 games for the New York Knicks this season, but an injury in Wednesday's game versus the Miami Heat puts his consecutive game streak in jeopardy. Randle suffered an inversion left ankle sprain in the second quarter of the Knicks game.
Randle was hurt after grabbing a rebound, and Heat center Bam Adebayo landed on him after he faked a shot.
According to the Pro Basketball Docs, Randle suffered a standard inversion left ankle sprain in the Knicks' 101-92 win over the Heat and is likely to miss the Knicks' next few games. He has a history of left ankle sprains, so there's a chance to return quicker than usual.
With five games left in the regular season and the Knicks close to clinching a playoff spot, it would be unlikely to see Randle play in any more games before the playoffs. But he will be fully healthy for the playoffs.
Randle has averaged a career-high 25.1 points, while adding 10 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season.
Randle exploded for 57 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this month.
Last Thursday, Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley put his arm around Randle after he had received a technical foul from arguing with the referees during halftime. But Randle then got upset at Quickley and started shouting at him. Quickley removed himself from the situation by heading into the locker room.
The time off for Randle could help team chemistry as well.
