Normally we don't talk much about kickers, but the Colts kicker seems destined for injured reserve heading into Week 6. Blankenship is dealing with a hip injury and missed one FG while having another blocked on MNF. The bottom line is, whether it's the plant leg or the kicking leg, a hip injury is disastrous for a field goal kicker. This type of injury takes away his leg strength and depth on kicks while diminishing his value on kickoffs. It also affects accuracy and swing mechanics leaving the Colts no choice but to eventually place Blakenship on IR for more than the three weeks. The Indianapolis Colts have in fact already begun trying out new kickers.
