This Super Bowl LIV rematch features extensive injuries on the defensive end, with the Chiefs (4-2) carrying a 20-point SIC score advantage over the 49ers (3-3).
Teams with a 10+ point SIC score advantage are 59% against the spread over the past three seasons.
The Chiefs are tied with the Chargers for the AFC West lead and are coming off a 24-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Kansas City allowed 329 yards to Josh Allen and the Bills, primarily because of injuries to two key cornerbacks.
Rookie No. 1 cornerback Trent McDuffie remains on IR with a hamstring injury he suffered Week 1 and third-year corner Rashad Fenton missed last week with a hamstring injury.
McDuffie's practice window has been opened, but it remains unclear if he will make it back this week. Fenton has not practice yet this week and will likely miss another contest.
The only other absence on the defense is Willie Gay, who is serving a suspension for off-field issues.
San Francisco's defensive injuries are the main storyline of this game. By kickoff, it's possible the 49ers could be without six defensive starters.
They have experienced injuries to all four defensive linemen, two cornerbacks and both safeties.
Key pass rusher Nick Bosa will play for the first time since his Week 5 groin strain, but is unlikely to be effective. Edge rushers rely on explosiveness to get to the quarterback and the groin is key to his ability to get around the edge.
On offense, the 49ers are awaiting key addition Christian McCaffrey, but he likely won't be utilized until next week against the Rams.
Trent Williams will return for the first time since his Week 3 right ankle sprain. However, right tackle Mike McGlinchey is unlikely to be effective after suffering a calf injury last week.
The Chiefs are favored by 1.5 points on the road and the over/under is 48.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
With the 49ers extensive defensive injuries, the Chiefs should have no problem winning by that margin.
