Kenyan Drake Injury: Raiders Release Veteran RB Returning From Fractured Ankle

The Raiders are reportedly planning on releasing seventh-year running back Kenyan Drake with one year left on a two-year, $11 million contract.

Drake said to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports that he is not surprised he will be moved because “I never felt like I had a fair shot” after suffering a fractured right ankle last December.

Drake's injury ended his season and he underwent surgery over the offseason with the goal of being ready for the new-look Las Vegas offense.

The 28-year-old dual-threat back gained 710 all-purpose yards on 71 total touches with five touchdowns in 12 games before he went down on what he described on Twitter the next day as an “illegal form of tackling.” 

Drake criticized the leagues “points of emphasis” and the officials' tendency to over-penalize celebrations while they aren't doing enough to regulate dangerous plays.

If signed, the former Cardinals back will be playing on his fourth team in three years if he gets picked up,

The Raiders drafted Georgia running back Zamir White – who is listed as second on the team's depth chart – in the fourth round of April's draft and signed veteran free agents Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden.
