Khalil Herbert Leaves Game After Taking Knee To Helmet

Bears rookie running back Khalil Herbert left the game in the third quarter after taking a knee to the helmet. By video, rookie quarterback Justin Fields tossed the ball to Herbert, who fumbled the ball then jumped on top of it. Herbert then took an inadvertent knee to the head from a 49ers defender and remained down on the field. The rookie running back was taken to the locker room after undergoing evaluation in the blue tent on the sideline, indicating that he will likely be placed in concussion protocol.

The Bears are already missing running back Damien Williams, who left the game in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury, and starting back David Montgomery, who is on IR. Ryan Nall will take over the running back duties.

Update

Herbert returned to the game, meaning he has cleared the concussion protocol.
