K.J. Hamler Out For The Season, If Not More, With Significant Knee Injury

Denver Broncos wide receiver K.J. Hamler suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and is done for the season, according to head coach Vic Fangio. Hamler hurt his knee on a pass late in the second quarter against the Jets. By video, we didn't see anything definitive to suggest a torn ACL, but we had worry for an LCL injury. Fangio confirmed the ACL tear to reporters Monday and said Hamler had "some other stuff" involved in the knee. The 22-year-old wide receiver will have surgery to repair the issues in his knee and will be out at least a full year if not more. Not all ACL tears are the same and if there is significant LCL damage it will be tough for the speedy wide receiver to regain his form. Denver quarterback Teddy Bridgewater dealt with a significant knee injury in 2016 and missed two years. Although it is unclear right now if there are any similarities between the two knee injuries, our analysis is that it will not be a simple recovery for Hamler. Wide receivers make a lot more cuts that quarterbacks, so knee injury recovery is tougher for them. We hope Hamler progresses quicker than we expect. The Broncos will be down their No. 2 and No. 3 wide receivers when they face the Ravens in Week 4.
