The 49ers star linebacker dove with one arm to tackle oncoming rusher Kenyan Drake one yard short of converting a play on 3rd and 17. He made the play in the third quarter but this may have been proven to be been a costly for Alexander. He was ruled out with a chest injury shortly after. By video, Alexander appears to tear his left pectoral muscle on the play. Indeed there was a postgame report of a pec injury and pending MRI. Our expectation is that this situation is similar to J.J. Watt. I expect the MRI to confirm a pec tendon rupture which means surgery and the end of his season. This is a big loss for the one of the top three defenses in the league so far this year.
