Update: Irving has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Warriors but shouldn't require a long absence. Chance to return on Friday at home vs. Hornets or on Sunday on the road in Charlotte.
Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving was wearing a walking boot after Monday’s 112-108 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, but is unlikely to miss much time, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
By video, he reaggravated his right big toe injury when he was stepped on by Grizzlies defender Dillon Brooks. Irving finished the game, but went 2-11 from the field after the injury.
Based on multiple video angles of the injury, Irving has a good chance of playing against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
He carries a SIC score of 88, meaning his minutes may be slightly reduced but he will have full effectiveness when on the court, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
After Monday’s game, Irving said the use of the boot was “precautionary” and he planned to “exhaust all options over the next 48 hours” to minimize swelling and reduced missed time.
The soon-to-be 31 year old has been battling a right toe injury since March 8, when he landed awkwardly on a flexed foot in the closing minutes against the Pelicans.
Dallas, 4-6 in their last 10, need Irving on the court as much as possible down the stretch.
Even if Irving is not ready for Wednesday's matchup against the Warriors, the Pro Basketball Docs do not expect him to be out long.
Luka Doncic should also be close to a return from his quad strain. Doncic has missed the last five games, primarily because of how important the quad is for acceleration and jumping on shots.
The Mavericks currently hold the 7 spot in the Western Conference with 10 games remaining.
Dallas has the ninth-best odds to win the NBA Finals +3300, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
