The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the World Series as one of the least healthy teams in MLB, primarily due to injuries among their pitching staff. Despite these setbacks, they managed to reach the championship series, but their injury woes continued to mount during Game 2. The Dodgers, already stretched thin, were dealt a potentially crushing blow.
Star player Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal second base and was tagged out, appearing to suffer by video a transient left shoulder dislocation with a possible associated labral tear based on analysis by our team of Pro Sports Docs. This injury is significant and will almost certainly mean the end of the World Series for Ohtani, the Dodgers' dynamic leadoff hitter. Surgery would be expected if injury confirmed with the goal of having him close to ready by 2025 spring training.
For now, the Dodgers must finish the series without their most valuable offensive player. The absence of Ohtani not only impacts the batting lineup but also their overall morale, as they now have to rely on Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts to step up in crucial moments, something that has worked up to this point. The Dodgers will need to adjust if they hope to close out the series (Dodgers up 2-0) as things could completely shift with Ohtani out of the lineup.
