Four Hornets – Lamelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, and Jalen McDaniels – were placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19. The Hornets (13-11), who have already lost 3 in a row and hold the 8 seed in the East, will be without the quartet for at least 10 days as they go through protocols.
Each player will need to be isolated and symptom-free for 10 days and/or post 2 negative PCR tests over 24 hours apart before returning to the team. They will then need to be cleared by team doctors to get back in the lineup.
Ball, Rozier, and Plumlee start at point guard, shooting guard, and center for Charlotte, respectively, and Ball and Rozier are 1st (20 ppg) and 3rd (17.7 ppg) on the team in scoring. McDaniels is averaging 5.5 points and 3 rebounds on 15 minutes per game. Expect Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges, and Kelly Oubre Jr. to handle the scoring load, while veteran Ish Smith will step in as a ball-handler.
Ball and co. will out for at least the next 5 games, which come against the Hawks, 76ers (twice), Kings, and Mavericks. The game in Dallas is the first of a 6-game West Coast road trip.
