LeBron James A Late Scratch vs 76ers, Dealing With Left Knee Soreness

LeBron James has been ruled out for the Lakers' Thursday night game vs the 76ers, his first missed contest since Nov. 30.

Head coach Frank Vogel said James is day-to-day after waking up this morning with the discomfort, leaving his availability for tomorrow night vs the Hornets up in the air (this is strangely the same circumstance that began Anthony Davis' sage involving his left knee).

If anybody knows the limits and needs of his own body, it's LeBron James, who famously spends millions of dollars and countless hours on his health, and has been worked to the bone this season.

The workload has been impressive for the 37-year-old in what has been a tumultuous season for Los Angeles.

James is averaging 36.6 minutes per game, his most since 2017-18. He has started multiple games at center, including for the first time in his career, since Dec. 28 in the absence of Anthony Davis, and has scored 25-or-more points in 18 straight games since Davis went down on Dec. 17.

In the 28 games since serving a 1-game suspension on Nov. 23, James is scoring 30.9 points with 8.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists while forcing 2.8 steals/blocks in 37.1 minutes per game, all unheard of marks for a player in his 19th season.

After a mostly clean first 15 years of his career, James has dealt with various injuries since coming to the Lakers in July 2018: a groin injury held him to only 55 games in 2018-19, a lingering ankle injury held him out of 26 of the final 30 games of the 2020-21 season, and ankle and abdomen issues caused him to miss 10 of the first 16 games this season.
