LeBron James is hopeful that he will be available for the Lakers Friday against the Pelicans as he recovers from a significant left ankle sprain, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski.
James has missed the last 2 games after suffering the sprain in the 2nd quarter of the Lakers' loss to that same Pelicans team.
The 37-year-old, who said after Sunday's game his ankle felt “horrible,” played through the ailment, scoring 39 points but trailing off in the 4th quarter.
James will join Davis, who is reportedly going to attempt a return of his own from a right foot sprain as the Lakers rush to regain ground in the standings. Los Angeles has dropped 14 of its last 18 games, dropping to the No. 10 seed, setting the Lakers up for an arduous road to qualify for the playoffs.
James leads in the NBA in scoring at 30.1 points per game, and with 2 more games played he would qualify to win his 2nd career scoring title. He would be the 19th player to win multiple scoring titles, and by far the oldest, surpassing Michael Jordan, who notched 28.7 points per game in 1997-98 at 34 years old.
