The Lakers ruled out LeBron James for their Thursday bout with the Jazz as he rehabs his significant left ankle sprain.
The Lakers, 31-44, dropped to the No. 11 seed in the West after losing to the Mavericks sans James on Tuesday, and still have a matchup with the No. 9 seed Pelicans on Friday, April 1. Whether or not James plays in that game will likely show how the 4-time MVP and Lakers' brass feel about their chances in the playoffs this season.
Los Angeles, who will more than likely not see Davis (listed as doubtful) on the court again in the regular season, has gone 7-20 since James developed left knee soreness stemming from a Baker's cyst after a win over Brooklyn on Jan. 25.
Despite the lingering swelling, the 37-year-old is scoring 32.1 points with 9.2 rebounds on over 38 minutes in the 19 games since the diagnosis, vaulting him into the NBA's scoring lead in what would be his 2nd scoring title and 1st since 2007-08.
The Jazz have lost 5 in a row, recently squandering a 25-point 3rd quarter lead to the Clippers in Paul George's return Tuesday night and dropping them to a tie with the Nuggets for the No. 6 seed in the West.
