The Buccaneers activated LaVonte David and Giovanni Bernard off of IR but did not activate Leonard Fournette, leaving Tom Brady with little help in the backfield against the Eagles on Sunday.
LaVonte David will be a boon for the defense that has struggled in the 2nd half of the season. The 31-year-old missed the last 3 games after suffering a foot injury in the Week 15 loss to the Saints.
His presence alone will be a game-changer, although David's ability to cover sideline-to-sideline will likely be hampered.
Fournette has missed the last 3 games since leaving with a proximal hamstring injury also in Week 15 versus the Saints. Fournette would have risked re-injury if the did play. Ronald Jones II will also miss the contest with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 17.
With the top 2 backs out, expect Brady to serve Rob Gronkowski, Mike Evans, and Tyler Johnson with a cornucopia of targets.
Gio Bernard will be a pass-catching option out of the backfield, while sophomore Ke'Shawn Vaughn will likely step into a bigger rushing role.
