Luka Doncic Will Miss Multiple Games After Most Recent Ankle Sprain

Luka Doncic's ankles can't catch a break.

The star Mavericks point guard left Wednesday's win over the Warriors with 1:38 left after suffering a right ankle sprain which kept him on the ground grabbing his ankle during a timeout. He was marked as doubtful for Friday's game in Houston.

The injury appears to be a standard low inversion sprain, the most common basketball ankle injury. Because of Doncic's previous right ankle sprains during the 2019-20 season, he endured minimal new damage to the ligaments and will likely miss a week, according to our team of ProBasketkballDocs.

After your 1st ankle sprain each subsequent injury causes less and less tearing of the ligaments around the ankle and this will be the 3rd of his young career. In the '19-20 season, Doncic missed 11 games over a 2-month period between Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2020 from back-to-back right ankle sprains.

Doncic has missed 14 games this season with 2 ankle sprains to his left ankle, just returning on Jan. 2. Dallas has a 5-9 record in the contests he has missed, a mark holding them back from a potential top-4 seed in the Western Conference.

The 22-year-old is averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists on 44.3/31.8/71.3 shooting splits in 24 games this season.

After the Rockets, Dallas, 20-18, is set to to battle the Bulls on Sunday, followed by the Knicks, Grizzlies, and Magic next week.
