The Raiders backup quarterback was indeed injured on his long run in the first minute of the game in real time. As we noted, Mariota took a hard fall on his right shoulder and did not return to the game. After the game, it was announced as a reaggravation of a quad strain and head coach Jon Gruden indicated that this was the reason he wasn't used the rest of the game. His absence will depend on the significance of the strain. As a quarterback, he can play through but it may be a little while before he can be effective runner. We would anticipate that Mariota avoids IR and should remain the backup quarterback. The speedy QB will be missed in special packages where he can be utilized as an effective runner and these may not be included in the offense for several weeks.
