The Marlins placed star second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day IL with a lingering low back strain.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Injury Update
The 24-year-old left last Friday's game in the sixth inning with back spasms. He appeared to suffer the strain on a swing-and-miss in the third inning and began grabbing at and stretching his lower back after the play.
He returned to play the next day but was pulled after one inning on Tuesday.
Chisholm is batting .254 with an .860 OPS while smashing 14 home runs, 28 extra-base hits, 45 RBI, 39 runs, and 12 stolen bases. He is the leading vote-getter at second base in the NL.
Former all-star third baseman Joey Wendle remains on the 10-day IL with a lingering hamstring injury but has begun a rehab assignment.
Jon Berti and Brian Anderson will likely continue to fill-in for Chisholm Jr. and Wendle while 30-year-old Erik Gonzalez will contribute to the platoon.
