Matthew Stafford exited Sunday’s loss to the Saints after reportedly experiencing numbness in his legs on a hit.
Although Stafford’s potential second concussion was the main worry, these symptoms indicate a potentially more serious spine issue for the Super Bowl champion quarterback, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Stafford reportedly underwent neck and spine testing this week and head coach Sean McVay has indicated repeatedly that the quarterback has not been diagnosed with a second concussion yet.
The 34-year-old passer has already been ruled out for this week because of the neck issue and will need time for full imaging to figure out his potential spine issue.
Feeling numbness in one leg is often a disc issue, while numbness in both legs indicates an issue with the spine, until proven otherwise.
If there is an issue found with the spine or neck, it takes time to treat. If there is no issue found, the team will still likely be cautious until they figure out the source of the symptoms.
At this point, it would be fantastic news to see Stafford return after one week. Even if he clears concussion protocol, the neck issue needs to be resolved before he can return to play.
Stafford missed Week 10 after reportedly experiencing delayed concussion symptoms.
Bryce Perkins, the mobile rookie QB, will get the start this week with John Wolford also dealing with a neck injury.
The Rams are 15.5-point underdogs on the road against the Chiefs and the over/under is 42.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
