Rams' head coach Sean McVay said on Wednesday that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was placed in concussion protocol due to to experiencing delayed symptoms after last Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers.
While it's unclear when the concussion occurred, Stafford has a slim-to-none chance of playing in Week 10, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Through Week 6, roughly 15% of players were able to clear concussion protocol and return for the next game. Only one of those players, Talanoa Hufanga, experienced delayed symptoms but were able to clear in time for the next game.
Players normally elevate from a DNP to limited participation to full participation in practice before being cleared on Saturday or early Sunday.
Multiple starters in recent weeks, however, including Christian Watson and Talanoa Hufanga, were cleared to play on Sunday without fully participating during the week of practice.
Third-year undrafted backup quarterback John Wolford was 22-38 with 231 yards and one pick in his only career start against the Cardinals in 2020.
The defending Super Bowl champions are 3-5 this season and Stafford has 1,928 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions on 35.6 pass attempts per game.
