For the second time in three months, talk about a Jimmy Garoppolo shoulder injury have gotten key facts wrong.
In March, when Garoppolo underwent surgery to repair a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder, reports were that it was a minor surgery and he was still tradeable.
Meanwhile, our team of Pro Football Docs detailed why the shoulder injury would have a big impact on his trade value and essentially make him untradeable until teams see him throw again.
At the time, Adam Schefter reported that Garoppolo was expected to resume throwing by July 4. There has been no news that Garoppolo is close to throwing and he was absent from the 49ers OTAs in early June.
As his return timeline pushes closer to the start of the season, teams will be wary of how long it will take him to learn the play book and click with his receiving core.
Setting The Record Straight on Julian Edelman, Martellus Bennett's Garoppolo Criticism
Speaking on separate podcasts, former Patriots teammates Julian Edelman and Martellus Bennett made some choice comments about Garoppolo's toughness related to another shoulder injury in the past.
Bennett, speaking on the McCourty twins' Double Coverage podcast, said one of the two Patriots' losses in 2016 was because “Jimmy Garoppolo was being a b****.”
The former Patriots tight end went on to say that he understood why Garoppolo and his agent would want to protect his body, but he felt the decision to not play should have been made on Thursday instead of Sunday.
Edelman, speaking on the I Am Athlete podcast, read Bennett's comments and agreed, saying "I can understand why Marty thinks like that."
The former Patriots wideout said a lot of players, including himself, got mad about Garoppolo's decision not to play.
However, Edelman was wrong in remembering that the injury was to the non-throwing shoulder. The injury was actually a Grade 2 AC joint sprain in Garoppolo's throwing shoulder.
Garoppolo, filling in for an injured Tom Brady, suffered the injury Week 2 when tackled by Miami's Kiko Alonso.
He missed Week 3, a quick turnaround Thursday game, in which Jacoby Brissett led the team to a win but suffered a right thumb UCL injury.
Garoppolo and Brissett were both limited participants in practice all week, then Brissett started the Week 4 loss, with Garoppolo inactive.
Brady returned Week 5 and Garoppolo remained on the injury report with the right shoulder injury until Week 7.
