The New York Mets will have to find a new starting catcher until at least the start of July.
James McCann Injury Update
James McCann, 31, underwent an MRI Friday morning that revealed he has a fractured hook of the hamate bone in his left, non-throwing hand.
The Mets catcher will undergo surgery on his hand to remove the fractured hook of the hamate bone and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
Recovery from hamate bone surgery is fairly straight forward, as the main wait is for the incision to heal. With rehab starts to get him back up to speed he should be back by two months at the latest, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.
The ninth-year big leaguer is hitting .196 in 56 at bats this season with 1 home run and 6 RBIs.
Left-handed hitter Patrick Mazeika was called up to take McCann's spot on the roster. Tomás Nido is likely to face left-handed pitchers with Mazeika slotting in against righties.
Mets World Series Odds
New York, 22-11, is at -200 to win the NL East and +800 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
