Mets Injury Report: James McCann Placed On 10-day IL, Starling Marte Avoids IL

Update: The MRI on Starling Marte's left groin showed no significant damage and he is listed as day-to-day.

The Mets sent catcher James McCann to the 10-day IL and Starling Marte will reportedly follow suit after the duo each suffered muscle strains on Saturday night.

James McCann Injury Update

McCann will be out for multiple weeks after suffering a left oblique strain, according to Buck Showalter.

The 32-year-old suffered the apparent injury torquing his body to apply a tag at home in the top of the sixth. He was replaced by Tomás Nido after the play.

McCann has played in nine games since returning from an early-season hook of hamate fracture in his left wrist. The Mets went 26-16 during his absence from May 11 to June 24.

Nido and Patrick Mazeika are in line to split time behind the plate after Nido went 2-2 with a game-tying RBI double and the game-winning run in the 10th inning on Saturday night.

Starling Marte Injury Update

Marte was removed in the top of the fourth with left groin tightness after being checked out by trainers.

The rightfielder is not in the lineup on Sunday and there is reportedly a “realistic chance” he will be placed on the IL after his MRI this morning.

Marte has been an effective top-of-the-linup hitter in his first season in New York, batting .291 with 30 extra-base hits, 40 RBI, 50 runs, and 10 stolen bases in 322 at-bats.

Mets Division And World Series Odds

The Mets, 53-32, remain first in the AL East and are favored to win the Division on FanDuel Sportsbook at -145, but will have to fight off the surging Braves, who are rising underdogs at +135.

The two teams will square off for a three-game series in Atlanta starting on Monday.
