Mets Injury Report: Starling Marte, Pete Alonso Exit Early

Rightfielder Starling Marte and first baseman Pete Alonso were each pulled after suffering injuries in their first appearances against the Padres tonight.

Starling Marte Injury Update

The speedy top-of-the-order hitter appeared to suffer a left leg injury while getting thrown out on a slide into second base. Marte pointed to his quad after landing hard on his upper left leg and awkwardly stretching to avoid the tag.

He initially stayed in the field in the bottom of the first but was replaced by Mark Canha.

Pete Alonso Injury Update

Alonso's injury is of more immediate concern.

The 2019 Rookie Of The Year walked off after being hit in his right hand by a Yu Darvish fastball.

X-rays on his injured hand came back negative, according to the Mets.

According to the ProBaseballDocs, where he was hit was on the palmar of hand over by the fifth metatarsal. That side is filled with less bone and has padding from the hypothenar eminence, a grouping of muscles at the base of the pinky finger.

He was replaced by J.D. Davis in the order and at first base.

Update: Marte will have an MRI on his left quad today with a 10-day IL stint looming
