Mike White, the Jets backup quarterback, injured his right forearm in the first quarter of the Thursday night football game. By video, he had his wrist bent backward when he hit a defender’s outstretched hand on a throw. He threw a touchdown to finish the drive, then trainers examined his wrist on the sideline. White spiked a ball in frustration after attempting to throw and reportedly told trainers he “can’t feel” his hand/wrist.
We believe White is dealing with a superficial ulnar nerve contusion, which is characterized by numbness in his fourth and fifth fingers. The ailment could affect his grip and White was seen on the sideline trying to adjust his grip. Typically nerve issues last seconds. Once they last for longer than a minute, they are likely to last for hours or days. He's listed as questionable to return with a forearm injury. We would be surprised if he can return and be accurate with the altered grip. Josh Johnson will fill in at quarterback if White can’t return to the game.
