MLB Injury Updates For This Week

Here is an injury roundup from covering key players and updates on their injuries:

Kyle Tucker and Justin Verlander, Astros

Tucker, with a right shin contusion, is gradually making progress and aiming to return to the lineup soon.

Verlander has been on the IL since mid-June with neck stiffness recently played catch however does not have a timetable for his return.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Isiah Kiner-Falefa were both scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup on Monday. Guerrero is dealing with discomfort in his right hand after being hit by a fastball, while Kiner-Falefa has a left knee injury.

Michael Harris II, Tyler Matzek and A.J. Minter, Braves

  • Michael Harris II: Recovering from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, yet to resume running.

  • Tyler Matzek: Progressing from left elbow soreness but has no set return date.

  • A.J. Minter: Making his third Minor League rehab appearance, with possible activation soon.

Joey Ortiz, Brewers

Ortiz is out with neck tightness, although it is not considered serious beyond stiffness.

Lars Nootbaar, Cardinals

Nootbaar, out with an oblique strain, began a Minor League rehab assignment recently.

Javier Assad and Mark Leiter Jr., Cubs

  • Javier Assad: Cleared to resume playing catch after a right forearm extensor strain.

  • Mark Leiter Jr.: Resumed playing catch and had a light bullpen session after a right forearm strain.

Gabriel Moreno, Diamondbacks

Moreno, recovering from a left thumb sprain, is expected to return once his IL stint ends on Tuesday.

Alex Cobb, Thairo Estrada, Wilmer Flores, Kyle Harrison and Blake Snell, Giants

  • Alex Cobb: Scheduled for a rehab assignment after left hip surgery.

  • Thairo Estrada: On the IL with a left wrist sprain.

  • Wilmer Flores: On the IL with right knee tendinitis.

  • Kyle Harrison: Recovering from a right ankle sprain, aiming for a return on July 1.

  • Blake Snell: Set for a third rehab start and expected to rejoin the rotation on July 9.

Edward Cabrera, Marlins

Cabrera is continuing his rehab with a scheduled start for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Kodai Senga and Drew Smith, Mets

  • Kodai Senga: Recovering from a strained posterior capsule in his right shoulder, Senga is progressing well and is expected to start a rehab assignment soon.

  • Drew Smith: Likely heading for Tommy John surgery due to significant elbow ligament damage.

Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber, Phillies

  • Bryce Harper: Suffering from a left hamstring strain, Harper has started his rehab and is expected to return before the All-Star break, according to manager Rob Thomson.

  • J.T. Realmuto: Post right knee surgery, Realmuto has been actively playing catch, taking dry swings, and hitting off a tee.

  • Kyle Schwarber: Recovering from a left groin strain, Schwarber aims to return on July 9. His injury is reported to be mild.

Josh Jung and Corey Seager, Rangers

  • Josh Jung: Delayed batting practice due to wrist inflammation and is now consulting a specialist. A return before the All-Star break is unlikely.

  • Corey Seager: Left Saturday's game after being hit on the hand/wrist by a pitch. X-rays were negative.

Liam Hendriks, Red Sox

Hendriks, recovering from Tommy John surgery, will throw three more bullpen sessions and aims to join the bullpen by the Trade Deadline.

Adam Frazier, Royals

Frazier, on the IL with a right thumb strain, is participating in defensive drills and progressing well.

Juan Soto, Yankees

Juan Soto, dealing with a right-hand bruise, was a surprise addition to Sunday's lineup after initially being slated for a day off. Despite the injury, Soto managed to contribute effectively with one hit, one run, one RBI and two walks from five plate appearances.
