A new NBA season is upon us and with that a brand new year of basketball betting. Here at sicscore.com we will be covering the NBA and the many injury issues extensively through Court Views, articles and now SIC Picks.
Last year we introduced NBA Court Views, which use our algorithm to produce SIC scores that show the health of a team. For more details on the process and how it can win you money read here. The views provide a visual representation of the matchup and is colored to show the injuries per position.
When a NBA matchup holds a differential of 10+ points in reference to their SIC scores, against the spread the healthier squad covers at a rate of 61.2% (30-19-2). During the regular season, it sat at a crispier 66.7% (20-10-2).
Now that SIC Picks has launched we can officially track our picks going into the season while giving out premium picks with a SIC Picks subscription.
Here is a sneak peek into NBA SIC Picks heading into the 2022-2023 season:
The Celtics are reeling from almost winning a title to losing their head coach but hold a strong core going into the new season. The main issue will be the big men on the squad and the glaring lack of depth at the F/C position. This pick has nothing to do with their talent and more having to do with it likely be a massive struggle to win more than they’re 51 wins from a season ago.
Injuries to C Robert Williams and free agent signing F Danilo Gallinari are big issues in the front court with Williams out till late November - Early December while Gallinari is out for the season (ACL tear). The signing of F Blake Griffin inspires no confidence and although F Grant Williams is a solid player, removing him from the bench weakens an already noodle-strong unit. Take the under in will be a dog fight in the Eastern Conference.
The Nuggets bring back two big pieces in G Jamal Murray and F Michael Porter Jr. Murray will play after missing the last 100 Nuggets regular season games and 15 playoff squabbles. Porter Jr. will return but should be monitored as his back issue is clearly a red flag but of healthy makes their offense even more dynamic combined with the reigning MVP Nikola Jokic. Expect Denver to be one of the best teams in the West this season.
The Lakers are a hot mess and Lebron James isn’t young enough to anything about it unfortunately. His supporting cast has potential with oft-injured F Anthony Davis and G Russell Westbrook but both are impossible to rely on.
Their depth has started thin with G Dennis Schroder out to start the year after undergoing thumb surgery and multiple others are nursing small ailments. Take the under and even the Lakers to not make the playoffs as this team is made to barely make the play-in tournament.
The beleaguered guard has been through and won it all heading into the 2022-2023 season. With the Warriors playing deep into the spring, expect the guards minutes to be limited.
Thompson is no longer the mobile score he once was an he may average 18 but we don’t see how he scores above twenty with the Warriors looking to usher in the youth with Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Donte DiVincenzo, Bet the under on the former star.
Chicago will be without G Lonzo Ball for most of the season but the books have hit the Bulls hard due to the loss. We believe otherwise with G Ayo Dosunmu and G Alex Caruso able to hold down the fort while free agent signing Goran Dragic can produce as well.
Stars Zach Lavine and DeMar DeRozan are capable of winning games by themselves meaning the Bulls should have no issues makes at least an eighth seed. Downplay the Ball outage and take the Bulls to go to the playoffs.
