Daniel Jones - QB

The young Giants quarterback has been playing well but often running for his life behind a shaky Giants offensive line. He did suffer a high ankle sprain and missed two games, but returned to finish the 2019 year and there should be no lingering issue going forward. As a rookie, he finished with 3,027 Yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, with 279 yards and a pair of scores on the ground. Hopefully the addition of Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas via the 4th overall pick this year will help stabilize New York pass protection and keep Jones upright long enough to throw downfield.

Saquon Barkley - RB

Look for a bounce back year from Saquon Barkley in 2020. Although he rushed for just over 1,000 yards and added 6 touchdowns last season in 13 games, many expected more from him after his explosive rookie campaign. In 2018, Barkley galloped for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns while staying healthy for all 16 games. As we reported first during the Giants’ Week 3 game, Barkley suffered a moderate high ankle sprain and ended up missing three games. He made a relatively quick return, but had lingering effects from the injury. Players can return early like he did, but it usually takes months to truly be 100%. Given an extended rest in the offseason, Barkley should be 100% ready for the new season.

Sterling Sheppard - WR

Sterling Sheppard missed five games in 2019 with a broken thumb and multiple concussions. The thumb is fine but the head injury history carries with some worry. With two last season and some delay in returning to the field, each subsequent concussion comes easier and recovers harder. We are not saying the next one will end his career but would likely carry a multi-week absence and multiple would put retirement as a possibility. Other than the head injury history, Sheppard seems good to go for 2020. Without Beckham Jr. in the lineup, Sheppard continued to carry a significant role in this offense contributing 57 catches for 576 yards and three touchdowns in just 10 games.

Evan Engram - TE

Evan Engram’s first two seasons have been injury plagued with MCL, hamstring and Lisfranc foot injuries, missing 13 games during that time. Engram is coming off foot surgery but has since passed his physical. Many worry about the Lisfranc injury and delayed recovery but his injury seemed mild even though he needed surgery. We get the hesitancy to trust him given his history but he has a chance to be healthy this season and the foot is less of a worry than many think. With 44 catches for 467 yards and three touchdowns last year, he still found a way to contribute despite his injuries and should continue to be a valuable option for sophomore quarterback Daniel Jones.
