Mel Kiper Jr. listed Nevada signal-caller Carson Strong as his No. 6 quarterback in this year's class ahead of tomorrow's NFL Draft.
The 22-year-old won Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Year in each of his last two seasons and has as big an arm and as much control of an offense as any other quarterback in the Draft.
His chronic right knee issues, which has spurred three surgeries since 2017, are a long-term concern that could drop him in the Draft, according to our ProFootballDocs.
FanDuel Sportsbook currently has his over/under draft position set at 114.5, which is in the top-10 picks of the fourth round.
Strong's issues began in 2017, when he underwent a surgery to insert eight biodegradable screws in his knee. He suffers from osteochondritis dissecans, a condition caused by poor blood flow that can ultimately kill a part of the bone and wear out the surrounding cartilage.
Strong missed his senior year of high school and red-shirted his freshman season after the surgery.
In his 27-touchdown, four-interception 2020 campaign, Strong dealt with lingering inflammation and underwent a second surgery that involved a bone graft, signaling that his 2017 surgery didn't work as intended, according to the Docs.
Before the 2021 season started, Strong had a third surgery to remove scar tissue in his knee.
Three surgeries before his NFL career begins is a bad omen in and of itself, but the continued soreness and inflammation he reportedly battled during his redshirt-junior season signals he will likely deal with issues for however long his professional career lasts.
