Injuries may have cost Andy Dalton a true audition to win the Chicago Bears job and now he’ll hit the open market.
A left knee bone bruise kept him out for two weeks in September last season after he made two starts to begin the year.
He then suffered a left hand injury in early December followed by a bout with COVID-19 and a groin injury. The 34-year-old ended up 4-4 in his starts, finishing with 1,515 passing yards, a 63.1 completion percentage, 8 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
None of those issues will carry over to next season, but the disjointed season didn’t give teams much chance to evaluate Dalton.
The 11-year veteran has started for three different teams in his career and has an overall record of 77-69-2.
His deal with Chicago was a one-year, $10 million contract. At this point in his career he seems more suited for a backup role and it remains to be seen what his market value is.
