NFL Free Agency Injury Profile: T.Y. Hilton

After a successful 10-year career with the Colts, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is primed to hit the open market at an unfortunate time.

Hilton nearly retired after undergoing neck fusion surgery ahead of the 2021 season, which sent him to IR and kept him out for the first 7 games.

Luckily, his neck should be healthy, as evidenced by his return and completion of the 2021 season, but there may not be much of a market for the 32-year-old who has shown clear signs of breaking down the last 3 seasons.

Hilton has had multiple injury issues since 2019, including a severe calf tear that cost him 5 games and spoiled the second half of his age-30 season.

While he played 15 games in 2020, Hilton produced full-season lows of 93 taregts and 56 receptions for 762 yards.

After averaging 75 yards per game, 16 per reception, and 1,275 yards over the course of a full 17-game slate in his first 7 seasons, the 32-year-old has posted 45.5 yards per game and 12.9 yards per reception, projecting out to 60 catches for 775 yards over a 17-game season.

With many college receivers each season able to step in as rookies and contribute immediately, a big contract and meaningful role will be hard to come by for Hilton.
