NFL Free Agency Injury Profile: Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor, the former Houston Texans quarterback, has a legitimate case as one of the most unlucky quarterbacks in recent memory.

Injuries happen in football, but Taylor's injuries the past two seasons could not have come at worse times.

In 2020 with the Chargers, a pregame rib block injection went too deep and gave him a partially collapsed lung. That opened the door for rookie Justin Herbert to take over and Herbert did not relinquish that opportunity.

Last season, Taylor won the starting job out of training camp for the Texans, but suffered a strained right hamstring in Week 2 that kept him out six weeks.

During that absence, former Texans head coach David Culley got a good look at rookie Davis Mills and clearly favored him even when Taylor returned.

Taylor got three more starts, but didn't perform well and was replaced when he injured his non-throwing wrist in his fourth start.

We detailed at the time that Taylor could play through the non-throwing wrist injury, and was likely lobbying to, but Culley used the injury to switch to Mills for the rest of the season.

Now, the 32-year-old mobile quarterback is vying to join the sixth team of his 11-year career.

Taylor got a one-year, $5.5 million with the Texans last season.

None of those previous injuries will carry over into next season, but it remains to be seen if he will get another opportunity to win a quarterback job.
