NFL Free Agency 2023: Health Scores for Top 5 Offensive Free Agents

Kareem Hunt - SIC score 94

Former Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt has faced durability issues throughout his career. He played in a career-high 17 games last season but only had 123 carries. The season before only played in eight games due to calf and ankle injuries. Hunt hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rushing season since his rookie year, and last year averaged a career-low 3.8 YPC behind one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. Hunt has a 94 SIC Score, but his decline is evident.

Dalvin Cook - SIC score 93

The Minnesota Vikings released Dalvin Cook on Sunday, and it came as a surprise to many fans. Cook is coming off his fourth straight 1,000-yard rushing season. Cook played 17 games this season, the most he’s ever played in his career. But with Cook’s age and injury history, it’s not shocking to see why the Vikings decided to move on. In the offseason, he underwent left shoulder surgery, which should remedy his shoulder issues. He previously had trouble pass-blocking due to his shoulder. Cook has a 93 SIC score because he decided to fix his ailing shoulder injury. Cook is expected to be capable of being a three-down back next season.

Ezekiel Elliott - SIC score 92

Former Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott was released in March after he refused to take a pay cut. Throughout his seven seasons with the Cowboys, he was the team’s bell cow RB accumulating 8,262 rushing yards and 68 rushing touchdowns. But being one of the only running backs in the NFL with over 1,800 carries doesn’t bold well for his future in the NFL. Elliott has a 92 SIC score because he’s always been a durable player during his career. Elliott has played in 15 or more games 16 times during his NFL career. But in the last two seasons, he’s had many injuries, such as a right knee hyperextension the previous season that cost him two games. Also, in the 2021-22 season, he suffered a calf injury, bruised ribs, and a partially torn PCL. Elliott will likely sign as an RB part of a large committee.

DeAndre Hopkins - SIC score 92

Former All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins was released by the Arizona Cardinals last week. He visited the Tennessee Titans on Monday and will visit the New England Patriots on Thursday. But The 5X All-Pro WR only played in 10 games last season, the fewest games he’s played since being drafted in 2013. Hopkins has a BLANK SIC score because he was nursing a knee and hamstring injury last season. But he is expected to bounce back next season.

Leonard Fournette - SIC score 91

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Leonard Fournette has been on the free agent market since March, and it’s no surprise since he hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rushing season since 2019. Fournette has battled hip, ankle, knee, and quad injuries throughout his NFL career. His litany of lower body injuries has zapped his explosives. He had his second-worst YPC (3.5) last season. Fournette has an 89 SIC score but must rest his aliments before returning to peak form.
