As we head into this critical AFC matchup between Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins, both teams are looking to start the season off with a win to set themselves up as contenders for their divisions. As always, will play a critical role in shaping the outcome of this game. In this article, we’ll break down the most impactful injuries and how they might affect the game.
As shown in the below Field View, the Jaguars start the season relatively healthy on both sides.
He missed the teams final two preseason games, but per head coach Doug Pederson, “Christian’s doing well. Would expect him to be a full-go for the game,”
Davis signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason. Last year, in the final week of the regular season, Davis suffered a left PCL knee sprain as determined by video analysis from our panel of Pro Football Docs. This injury caused him to miss the Bills' two playoff games. Reports indicate that his recovery has been slow. The Jaguars will be looking to Davis to replace the statistical output of Calvin Ridley, who departed for the division-rival Tennessee Titans. While Davis has the potential to be a game-changer, he will need to work on his consistency. His ability to perform at a high level in every game will be key to his success with the Jaguars. With a healthy return and the right support from the coaching staff, Davis could become a vital part of Jacksonville's offensive strategy and help lead the team to greater success in the upcoming season.
As shown in the below Field View, the Miami Defense is where the health mismatch stands out.
Jaelen Phillips suffered a ruptured Achilles in Week 12 while on track to have his best professional season, recording 43 tackles and 6.5 sacks before his injury. He is not expected to be fully recovered for the start of the season and will likely struggle to produce all year.
Bradley Chubb tore his ACL in Week 17 against the Ravens after an impressive season with 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, and 74 tackles. The Dolphins signed veteran Shaq Barrett as a stopgap, but Barrett has now retired abruptly, leaving a major hole in the pass rush. Like Phillips, Chubb is not expected to be ready for the start of the year and will struggle alongside Phillips when they both return. Pass rush is a glaring issue for Miami in 2024.
Walker was a full participant in practice on Thursday after being limited Wednesday due to a knee issue.
Jalen Ramsey tore his left meniscus in July 2023 but made a quicker-than-expected recovery, returning in Week 8 of the season. He moderately sparred on social media with our staff, defiantly claiming he could make a quick recovery. Ramsey finished the season with 22 total tackles and 3 interceptions, and although he wasn’t 100% most of the year, he is in line to have a much more productive season in 2024.
