By using the health advantages from Sports Injury Central field views, last year this feature was 51-15-4 (+16 against the spread) in our five weekly regular season picks mimicking the Circa and Westgate Superbook contests.
Our Week 3 picks finished a solid 3-2 which propelled our record to above .500 (8-7).
Follow up each week at sicscore.com or follow us on Twitter @SICscore for our ATS/Totals picks of the week as we plan to continue our winning ways for a fourth straight season.
Here are the 5 consensus injury-based picks heading into a packed Week 4 slate,
The battle of the winless carries a distinct advantage in favor of the Minnesota Vikings who have a 15.4 SIC score differential over the home Panthers. Panthers have injury issues on both sides of the ball starting with free agent signing Miles Sanders who picked up a groin injury in practice. If he does indeed suit up he will be ineffective especially behind the injured OL that still is without both starting guards. Defensively both starting CBs and FS are hampered/injured while key linebacker Shaq Thompson is out for the season. Vikings carry a clean bill of health on both sides of the ball which should lead to their first win of the season.
The Steelers hold a SIC score advantage of 14.5 over the Houston Texans heading into Week 4. The Texans continue to suffer OL issues and will now be onto their LG3 with Josh Jones officially ruled out. Defensively Houston will be without their top CB Derek Stingley who is on IR for a hamstring issue and veteran LB Denzel Perryman who is bothered by a hand/wrist injury. Expect the Steelers and their relatively healthy defense to win by over 3 on the road.
The 2023 Baltimore Ravens have consistently been the most unhealthy team in the NFL according to our SIC score algorithm and somehow picked up more injuries during Week 3. RB Gus Edwards picked up a concussion and fortunately cleared before Week 4 but LB David Ojabo (ankle) and Rashod Bateman (hamstring) will miss the Browns game along with Odell Beckham. The Nick Chubb injury is a big loss but something the Browns can play through with Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt in the mix. Take the Browns at home to take advantage of the Ravens lowly 67.3 SIC score.
The Jets find themselves in another primetime game and according to our SIC scores are clearly overmatched. QB and the LT injuries have crushed this New York team and things will not improve anytime soon. The Duane Brown IR placement has caused a massive shift in the OL with oft injured Mekhi Becton moving back to LT while RG Alijah Vera-Tucker will now be at RT. Breece Hall has yet to find his footing after tearing ACL last year and likely will struggle again versus the Chiefs. Besides the loss of Nick Bolton the Chiefs improve in health with Travis Kelce being another week healthy (knee).
The Colts will come into the NFL week with new OL issues with their LT Bernhard Raimann out due to a concussion along with C Ryan Kelly who is also sidelined with a concussion. Star LG Quenton Nelson is nursing a toe injury and not 100% healthy. Rookie QB Anthony Richardson is back but will likely struggle behind the Colts makeshift O-line. Los Angeles has OL issues of their own with LT Alaric Jackson questionable to play (hamstring) and Joe Noteboom not yet 100% after tearing Achilles last year. The Rams continue to struggle on offense without Cooper Kupp and should again this week against a healthy Colts defense.
