Nuggets Rule Out Nikola Jokic Friday vs. Rockets With Non-COVID Illness

2021 MVP and Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic will miss Friday's matchup with the Rockets with a non-COVID illness, according to Mike Singer of The Denver Post.

Jokic was listed as questionable about 2 hours before tipoff and was not seen on the floor for his normal pre-game warmup routine.

The 27-year-old leads the Nuggets in every major statistical category, and has been consistently dominant while leading Denver to a 36-26 record.

Jokic has missed 6 games this season and only 1 since returning from a wrist injury in late November. The Nuggets are 1-5 and have been outscored by an average of 11 points in those games.

Demarcus Cousins, who is averaging 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds on 54.8% shooting in the last 5 games, will likely start at center. Cousins recently signed a full-time contract with Denver and the team is 10-1 in games he has played this season.

Zeke Nnaji, who started for Denver the last time Jokic was out, is questionable with a knee injury and has not played since Feb. 11.

Aaron Gordon, Will Barton, and Monte Morris will take a greater scoring a playmaking load in Jokic's absence.
