Normally illnesses are not a huge factor in the NFL, but since we’re still in a pandemic, every illness must be reported. This means even if the player has a stuffy nose or slight headache teams are going to be very cautious, as they should be due to the requirements. Earlier this year we talked about Saturday night temperature checks and illness monitoring and because of this more illnesses are being recorded than usual and players are being sent home more often. Most of these players do not have COVID and return to play fairly quickly. Melvin Gordon, like all players, must prove he does not have COVID-19, which requires multiple negative tests and all symptoms to be clear. This could be tricky if players have symptoms that leak late into the week due to the league new requirements. Even though we’re late into the week, we still think Gordon has a good chance to play, assuming his symptoms go away and he consecutively tests negative for COVID-19. However after this tumultuous week Gordon underwent combined with the missed practice time, fantasy owners should look elsewhere. We’ve been saying since the airing of “The Last Dance” documentary this summer that the Michael Jordan “Flu Game” can no longer happen in the NFL. Do not expect to see any flu games because if a player has any type of symptoms they will not play regardless of the illness.
