Odell Beckham Jr. Out Week 2 As He Continues ACL Recovery

Odell Beckham Jr. has been ruled out of the Browns' Week 2 matchup with the Houston Texans as he continues his recovery from the left knee ACL tear he suffered in late October last season. He was seen out on the field warming up before the team's Week 1 matchup with the Chiefs, then was listed as inactive for the game. As we talked about on Monday's Pro Football Doc podcast, even if he could turn around and play Week 2 he would not be 100%. ACL recovery is more of a slow sunrise rather than a light switch. Beckham is probably being a good teammate knowing that his current level is well below 100% and not wanting to leave the team undermanned at the wide receiver spot. That decision shows his maturity and the reality is you can't speed up biology, despite how good he looked in the offseason and preseason videos. As we said in the offseason -- and as Beckham agreed with a response on Twitter -- cutting and deceleration are the keys to him being 100% healthy. It will likely be in the second half of the season that he regains his form and Jarvis Landry is there in the meantime to pick up the slack. Hopefully Beckham will be activated soon, but expect a gradual improvement throughout this year until he returns to his usual self. More details to come, including a video explaining the situation.
