Packers tight end Robert Tonyan is out for the rest of the season after tearing his left ACL in Thursday’s 24-21 win over the Cardinals. Tonyan had a 33-yard catch and run in the third quarter, then clutched his knee after being tackled by Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson. By video, Tonyan seemed to misstep before he was hit by Thompson and we said Thursday that we had significant worry for a left knee ACL tear.
Tonyan had 18 catches for 204 yards and two touchdowns in 8 games this season. Sixteen-year veteran Mercedes Lewis will step into the full-time starting tight end spot and will be backed up by Dominique Dafney and Josiah Deguara. The Packers are 7-1 and have +950 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel SportsBook.
