Update: Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar has been diagnosed with a concussion and cervical strain after Thursday's night's collision with shortstop C.J. Abrams on an in-between flyball.
The left fielder took a knee to the jaw and remained down on the field, then collapsed while attempting to walk off the field.
Profar will undergo a concussion evaluation, but the Pro Baseball Docs do not expect any structural neck injury.
The 29-year-old remained down on the field for awhile, then attempted to walk off under his own power. After walking a short distance, he slowed down and appeared to get dizzy before falling to the ground.
Loss of balance is typically a concussion symptom. Despite the scary nature of the collision and the sight of Profar falling down after, a concussion is the only concern, according to our team of Pro Baseball Docs.
While Profar will undergo a series of tests at a hospital, but our team of doctors expect him to be discharged shortly after.
At minimum, Profar is likely heading for a stay on the 7-day concussion IL. He's hitting .244 with 8 home runs and 38 RBIs in 83 games this season.
