Panthers Place Christian McCaffrey on IR with Ankle Injury, Ending His Season

Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey will miss the remainder of the season after the team placed him on IR Monday. An MRI reportedly revealed an ankle injury severe enough to land him on IR for a second time this season.

By video, the 25-year-old suffered an inversion left ankle sprain on a run early in the second quarter Sunday. After the injury, he had three rushes for -2 yards and didn't touch the ball in the second half. Initially, we thought the beleagured running back had a solid chance to return after the team's Week 13 bye. Instead, Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah will handle the running back duties for the remainder of the season.

McCaffrey missed five weeks earlier this year with a hamstring injury. He finishes the year with 442 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, plus 37 catches for 343 yards and a receiving touchdown.

The 5-7 Panthers play the 5-6 Falcons Week 14.
