The concussion (or non-concussion) of Mahomes has been much discussed and we have covered it on the Pro Football Doc podcast and in articles at outkick. What has been thoroughly vetted is his left big toe injury. By video, Mahomes appears to have a left mild turf toe injury, which makes it hard to push off and run. Notably, he did not step into one or two throws where the ball was short, and clearly his mobility was hampered. In terms of the turf toe, we would expect him to be limited at practice if not for the concussion and would expect him to play in the AFC Championship game, and a 85% healthy Mahomes is certainly better than any other option. This is an injury to watch but we do not believe it will prevent him from playing, and the clearance out of the concussion protocol remains the key.
