The MRI news was termed as "good", "best-case scenario" and "not significant additional damage". Despite this positive take, the fact is a dislocated kneecap was confirmed and that means Mahomes still suffered a significant injury. This does not mean that the Chiefs quarterback is completely in the clear. Medically it is impossible to not do some damage to the structures of the knee when the patella dislocates and if you read between the lines, the reports don't deny that. Even if the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) has not torn it has undoubtedly been stretched. This could still lead to a situation that Mahomes is more prone to dislocation and injury as we’ve talked about before. The fact that there is no distinct tear necessitating obvious surgery is good news. The fact that he is seeking a second opinion make sense and it shows he is doing whats right for him. Not that this has ever deterred his motivation but he is still on his rookie deal and is poised to receive the most expensive contract in league history. Mahomes should make sure he does what is best and safest for him and in that, the QB and the Chiefs should be aligned given that he is their future. Lets celebrate the early good news but the story on this injury is far from over. Surgery is not completely off the table, just not likely to happen now pending further opinions. Keep up with the site for latest news on Mahomes.
