Sunday is the three and a half week mark from when Patrick Mahomes dislocated his right knee. We voiced at the time that a four week recovery timeline with some risk of redislocation and likely surgery at the end of the season was the likely course of action. Today Chiefs head coach Andy Reid indicated that they will increase Mahomes workload in practice this week and see how he responds saying "We won't put him out there unless it's safe to do so.” Reid categorized Mahomes as day to day but there is no commitment to play Mahomes or Matt Moore at the moment. It remains my impression that Mahomes will play this week versus the Titans and I expect him to do well. However, there will be continued risk for redislocation given his loose ligaments and the previous injury where his tissue was stretched or partially torn. (He was able to practice in full Wednesday which alludes to what we've been saying as he will indeed start against the Titans this week.)
