Three-time Super Bowl champion James White announced his retirement Thursday morning, less than a year after suffering a season-ending hip subluxation.
White started training camp on the PUP list and the Pro Football Docs were not optimistic about his chances to play this season. He had a SIC score of 27.
“It's has been an honor to represent my family, my teammates and the people of New England as a Patriot,” White said in his retirement announcement.
The 29 year old played all eight seasons in New England.
He finishes with 1,278 career rushing yards and 3,278 receiving yards to go along with 36 total touchdowns.
He is also the only player to have a walk off touchdown in a Super Bowl.
The Patriots are still deep at running back despite White's retirement.
Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson are the clear 1A/1B backs. The team also signed Ty Montgomery and drafted Pierre Strong Jr. in the fourth round.
