Pelicans Now In Management Mode With Brandon Ingram's Sore Achilles To Avoid Lingering Issues

Pelicans all-star small forward Brandon Ingram is set to miss his 2nd consecutive game after suffering a left achilles injury early in Sunday's loss to the Thunder.

The good news for the lanky wing is that the injury is not a rupture, and is not yet serious. But the injury profile – ongoing soreness in the heel – represents achilles tendonitis, which can become a lingering issue with prolonged symptoms, and is something New Orleans and its 24-year-old scoring wing will need to manage and monitor closely.

Ingram appeared to suffer the injury with 3:30 left in the 1st quarter, when he came down on an innocent-looking rebound, landing on the heel of his left foot. Head coach Willie Green subbed him out during the next dead-ball.

The Pelicans are sitting at 12-23, 14th in the West, with no reinforcements in the form of Zion Williamson coming anytime soon in a top-heavy conference. A thorough approach to properly assess and ensure the injury won't become more serious would be prudent in what is already a lost season for New Orleans.

Ingram is averaging 22.9 points with 6.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 27 games, serving as a scoring savant or a facilitating force depending on what the team needed from him that night.
