Carson Wentz - QB
Carson Wentz has dealt with numerous injuries and has been unable to finish the last three seasons. In 2017, Wentz suffered an ACL/LCL knee injury and rushing back in 2018 led to a back stress fracture injury. He was knocked out with a concussion in the Wild card round last year and was unable to return. Though he has been labelled as injury prone at just 27 years old, Wentz has put up fantastic performances on the field including 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns, seven picks and a 63.9% completion rate in 2019. All of these issues should be fully behind Wentz and let's hope/expect a healthy 2020 campaign. He had sat out several practices with a "lower body injury" but is a full participant this week.
Desean Jackson - WR
DeSean Jackson's return to the Eagles was derailed by a groin injury that ultimately needed core muscle surgery. He had a fantastic outing in Week 1 with eight receptions, 154 yards and two touchdowns but did not play the rest of the year. We had our doubts that conservative care and rest would work which indeed turned out to be the case as Jackson indeed ended up choosing surgery. In retrospect, deciding to have the procedure earlier would have "cut their losses" and had Jackson back for the latter part of the season. The good news is he saved himself a season of wear and tear. The Cal product should be healthy going into the 2020 season but remember he is 33 years old and his speed may not be what it used to be regardless he can still provide value to a receiving corp.
Alshon Jeffery - WR
Alshon Jeffery had a disappointing 2019 campaign dealing with calf and foot issues which led to him to miss seven games total, ending his season on injured reserve. The late season Lisfranc injury led to surgery and he is not yet fully recovered. Jeffery will start the season on the active/PUP list as expected. He could come off at any time, but this could extend to missing the first six games or more, which is looking like a real possibility. With multiple injuries in last several years including rotator cuff surgery and the fact he is on the other side of 30, we are not sure how much longevity is left. He finished the year with 43 catches, 490 receptions and four touchdowns, which is decent production, just not for a player that accrues over 15 million per season.
Zach Ertz - TE
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is as tough as they come. Ertz suffered broken ribs and a lacerated kidney but returned to the same game. Ertz missed the next game because he was medically prohibited from playing but made an extremely quick return for the playoffs. Normally, a lacerated kidney leads to a month off and Ertz missed only one game. Going forward into the strange 2020 season, there are no kidney (or rib) worries for the productive tight end. He finished last year with 88 receptions for 916 yards and six touchdowns. The Stanford Cardinal alum will continue to be a featured part of the Eagles offense moving forward.
