ProBasketballDoc: Bradley Beal's Wrist Not A Concern Before Potential Trade Deadline Move

As the Wizards decide whether or not to blow up their current roster with a trade this week, their all-star guard Bradley Beal will watch from the sideline as he nurses a sprained left wrist.

The 24-28 Wizards decided to keep him out through the deadline this Thursday, Feb. 10 as he meets with more specialists.

Despite the multiple weeks missed, our team of ProBasketballDocs say the wrist injury is minor and will not be a concern for the Wizards or any team they send him to.

When the injury first occurred on Jan. 29, the immediate question was whether or not he fractured his scaphoid, a bone on the thumb side that is key for mobility. The 28-year-old previously fractured his left scaphoid in 2014, which required surgery and kept Beal out for five-and-a-half weeks.

That type of injury may not have come up on an initial x-ray – as was the case with Alex Caruso, who suffered a likely scaphoid fracture a few weeks ago – but the doctors have done further tests on the surgically-repaired bone, as they know the risk of a re-fracture.

It is possible that the absence is a part of Washington's prep heading into the trade deadline to ensure he does not worsen the injury and keeps his trade value up for a contender that is looking to install Beal right away.

Regardless, this does not appear to be a re-fracture of the scaphoid, and the 3-time all-star will not be deterred in the 2nd half of the season.

After a 10-3 start, the Wizards are 14-25 in their last 39 games, including a recent 6-game losing streak, dropping them a half-game out of the final play-in seed.

Similarly, after a career year in 2020-21, Beal is averaging 23.3 points per game with a career-high 6.6 assists and 3.4 turnovers while hosting a 53.9% true shooting mark, his lowest since 2014-15.
