The last time Klay Thompson attempted a field goal in an NBA game: Kevin Durant was his teammate, the Warriors still played in Oracle, and Coronavirus had yet to be detected.
It's been 941 days since Thompson limped off – and then heroically back on – the court after tearing his left ACL in June 2019, an injury followed up 15 months later by a complete tear of his right Achilles.
And on Sunday he'll make his return for Golden State.
Because of his slow and purposeful re-entry process, playing style, and his expected role, our team of ProBasketballDocs is optimistic about Thompson's ability to be impactful immediately upon impact.
The 31-year-old's sharpshooting should return quickly, and his biggest challenge in his limited minutes will be staying in front of defenders and being able to react and move well laterally. Overall, he should look ready to go for the 2nd half of the season.
In his return to the 29-9 Warriors, Thompson is expected to play between 15 and 20 minutes in the first few games back, and won't feature in back-to-backs until he has re-acclimated.
He will have the last 43 games of the regular season to ramp-up for a playoff run.
