Are the Philadelphia Eagles Practicing Covid Gamesmanship? - YouTube
The Eagles added 12 COVID-positive players to the reserve list on Monday, leaving their status for their season finale against the Cowboys in doubt.
Those players – many of them key cogs, including Fletcher Cox, Dallas Goedert, Jason Kelce, and Avonte Maddox – missing Week 18 may actually be a benefit for Philadelphia as it heads into the playoffs.
Because of the recent NFL COVID testing protocols, players can volunteer to be tested, and can return after 5 days. Likewise, once you test positive, you are not required to be tested again.
Testing players on Monday of this week not only gives them the opportunity to avoid potentially missing their playoff game, but it allows them to rest and recover in what amounts to a meaningless game for the playoff-bound Eagles. They will be off this week and return for a full week of practice ahead of the playoff game.
Even if they were to go all-in and win, the highest they could jump is to the No. 6 seed, and that is only with help from the 49ers.
Normally, a vast majority – if not all – of the 12 listed players would likely be available this weekend, but Philadelphia has no obligation to re-activate them before the game.
Keeping them out would allow extra practice players on the active roster, giving them a strategic roster advantage in the playoffs, when more teams are sure to endure COVID positives themselves.
